ππ️ SERMON: πΊπΈ The Shame of America

πΊπΈ The Shame of America [Part 1]
The speaker argues that America’s true shame isn’t military defeat, riots, pollution, divorce, or crime—but rejecting God’s Word. π Drawing from Hosea 4, he claims God is changing Israel’s (America’s) “glory into shame” because the people lack knowledge of Him. He identifies “whoredom” as worshiping other gods and following Canaanite/Edomite practices. π° He points to nudity, adultery, homosexuality, and blasphemy in media, blaming those who follow Judaism (whom he calls Edomites/Babylonian in origin). ⚠️ The solution? Understanding God’s Word—not mere religious talk. Deliverance will come when Israel turns back to God.

**The Shame of America [Part 1]**
The shame of America, the shame of America, and I want to talk about this in the way perhaps that we think of it and other people think of it, and then turn to the Bible and see if there is such a thing as a shame for our people or a shame for the nation. Now, I know when I use the term, when I say I'm going to speak on the shame of America, that anyone who hears me will conjure up something in their mind that will remind them of something that they feel is shameful in the nation or shameful that we're doing. I just made a short list here of perhaps some of the things that you would think about, perhaps some of the things that someone else might think about, when we're talking about a nation or the shame of a nation, especially our own, in this time.
Now, some of you may think in military terms, the shame of the defeat of the United States of America at the hands of a so-called guerrilla army over in Vietnam, and that's what we're suffering, is defeat, in spite of the way they phrase it, we are retreating out of Vietnam. Some of you may think that it's a shame that we cannot help the captives of Communism, people who are captured in other countries. Others think of the rioting and the burning in our cities, and what about the fact that you can't go out at night in some areas of the city and walk down the street in safety? A few days ago, a week or so ago, perhaps we would have thought about the pollution of the air and the water. We not only have a tremendous amount of smog here in Phoenix, but some of you have seen some of the television programs, and they show the fantastic pollution of our environment that's coming upon this nation, seemingly in spite of everything that we can do. Others look at the more personal things, the drunkenness, the divorce, the broken homes, the juvenile delinquents that come out of this thing of liquor and divorce and all of these things that are happening in the family. Many of us feel shame when we hear the snide remarks on television and radio and see it in the press about our God and our price and our religion, and the way that they even make jokes about it and laugh at it, and some of them push it aside and say we can't use the name of our Lord in our schools, and we can't use his word, and so on.
Many of the people involved in government, of course when you talk about the shame of America, they think perhaps our inability to help people in poverty, and the slums, and the things that are happening to people of low income, the older people who just do not have enough money to live a decent life in decent quarters. Perhaps the police officers would think about all of the murder, and the robberies, and the crimes, and everything that's happening. I could go on, I suppose, for the rest of this series, just listing the things that you and I and other people might think of when we talk about the shame of America.
In fact, there are men and large organizations that have made a way of life of talking about the shame of America. They talk about all these things that I've just mentioned, including the Communist conspiracy, the enemies taking over our government, and they make money, and spend money, and they've made literally a way of life talking about these things. But, what about turning to the word of God, and finding out what God says about all of these things? What is the real shame that has come upon these people? Turn with me to Hosea 4, I want to read a few of the verses in the chapter that I read on the radio this morning, so you'll see that this is all fitting the same general prophecy that I use in relation to the drug problem.
Now, it isn't just the drug problem, this is a prophecy by Hosea to the tribes of Israel. It starts out in chapter 4, verse 1, "Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land." Now, first of all, from here on, my sermon and Hosea's prophecy makes sense only to those people who know they're the Israel people of the Bible. You know, I couldn't stand in, I don't know, I don't believe I could stand in any other church in this great city, and its environs of between 600 and 700,000 people. I don't suppose there's another church in this area that I could stand in and read, "Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel," and have them realize I'm talking to them. Hosea was saying this to the United States of America, the descendants of the tribes of Israel. If you don't know that, and they don't, then the rest of this doesn't make sense. It just doesn't make sense. So, first of all, I have to narrow my audience down to those who know the identity. You folks do, so I'm going to talk to you about what Hosea said to us. "For the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." Did he say he had a controversy with them because they drank on Saturday night, divorced their wives, and so on? No, he said, "By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood touches blood. Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, yea, the fishes of the sea, also shall be taken away." And when I read that verse, I thought of some of the things I'd seen and heard on radio and television recently about the fact that the fish are actually dying in the rivers, the lakes, and the ocean of this nation. We say it's because pollution. We say, oh, the pollution of killing. God Almighty said, there's no knowledge of God in the land. You people are so unknowing that I'm going to take away even the fishes of the sea.
"Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another, for thy people are as they that strive with the priests. Therefore shalt thou fall in that day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mothers. My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee." All of the book of Proverbs, and many of the other scriptures, make it very plain that knowledge, as far as man is concerned, knowledge and wisdom comes from the Bible. So, when God says, you've rejected knowledge, He means you've rejected My Word. Now, amazingly enough, at the very time in America when we are rejecting the Word, we hear more preached about Jesus Christ than we have in the last hundred years. Now, I have some old books in there with some old sermons of a hundred and two hundred years ago, and they're fascinating to read when you consider you can read a sermon by a man who preaches for an hour, and he'll use the name of Christ at the beginning and maybe in his prayer at the end, or say in the name of Christ, Amen. You know what they preached? They preached the Word of the Lord. They didn't get up there and make a good fellow of themselves by saying the name of Christ over and over and over and over. Because, after all, what does the Word say Christ was? He was the Word made flesh. Right? We are to preach and teach and understand the Word, and yet they reject the Word, but they claim they're Christian. He says, "I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me. Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Many of these scientists, referring to the pollution, many of these scientists are actually despairing for the possibility that our grandchildren may be able to live on this earth. They say there's a possibility the pollution is getting so bad that unless we can change it, that mankind could die within the next 35 to 75 years. What does that mean? He's not talking about most of us, but he's talking about our children and our children's children. God said, "I will forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me. Therefore, will I change their glory into shame?" God says, "Therefore, I will change their glory into shame." Brother, sister, there's a great host of people across this land that think that we're in shame because the Communists are doing things against us. Because the liberals are foolishly passing laws that cause us to do this and that. Some think it's because our leaders just are ignorant and they're not educated enough. Some think we're suffering because we're not helping the Jews enough. And some think the only reason we haven't been destroyed is because we are helping the Jews. But it all boils down to one thing. God says, you have rejected my word, and I am going to change your glory into shame. And I could leave that verse, I suppose, and go right back into another 20 or 30 minutes about all the things that we have to be ashamed of. But I'm more interested this morning in making this point that it's God Almighty who is doing these things, brother, sister, even to the killing of the fish in the sea. And when Christ said that this would be a time of trouble such as there never was, brother, sister, it's coming upon this land and there's only one reason. We have refused to hear the word of the Lord.
Isaiah said the same thing back in Isaiah 42. In verse 22 he says, "This is a people robbed and spoiled. They are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses. They are for a prey, and none delivereth, for a spoil, and none saith restore. Who among you will give ear to this? Who will hearken and hear for the time to come? Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers?" And he answers the question, "Did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient under his law." And our tragedy today is that almost all the people believe that we don't have to be obedient to the law. We don't even have to know it. And yet God says he gave Israel to the robbers and to the spoilers. Someone handed me a newspaper article just this morning about the fact that the American people were taxed ten billion dollars this year or last year to give to foreigners. Well, brother, sister, we're the most robbed and spoiled people upon the face of the earth. The same politicians who cry that we're taxed too much and that our people are poor, and we have to tell them, are the same ones who then take wealth from the United States and send it to Europe and Africa and Asia and every place under the sun. And yet, I know, we blame them, and we say it's their fault that we're in this shameful condition, but God said to Isaiah and Hosea that if he, God Almighty, would give Israel to the robbers and the spoilers, then I'll change their glory into shame because they have forgotten me. Let's go back to Hosea and read on a little in chapter four. "They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. They desire to do their iniquity. They desire to continue their sin. And there shall be like people, like priests, and I will punish them for their ways and reward them for their doings. For they shall eat and not have enough. They shall commit whoredom and shall not increase because they have left off to take heed to the Lord. Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart." Drinking and adultery. And I suppose that if you were to ask a Christian psychologist, at least, they would tell you that liquor and broken homes is the greatest curse in America. These other things all come from them. And some say, well, the drug is the curse. Well, these drugs are actually nothing more than an intoxicant, just as liquor is, except they act faster. So, we have the same thing. We have things that happen to people's minds because they take these things and they commit all these abominations in front of the Lord. "My people ask counsel at their stocks and their staff declares unto them, for the spirit of whoredom has caused them to err." Now, I want you to notice as we go through this, I use the term adultery. But God Almighty even refers to the idea here. He says the spirit of whoredom has caused them to err. And I'm going to show you that there's a connection between the spirit of whoredom and the shame of America. And I think you'll see that this whoredom is not what you think it is. It's not necessarily adultery between men and women. It is the spirit of whoredom that caused them to err, and they have gone a-whoring from under their God. They have gone a-whoring from under their God. They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains. And then it goes on in something that I read this morning, so I won't read any more of it.
Now, there's a clue over in Ezekiel 36, before we go on back to this word of whoredom and find out what he means by the spirit of whoredom. In Ezekiel 36, there's a prophecy of our deliverance, the deliverance of the Israel people in the end of the age, the time of their delivery. And one of the things that he says about them is in verse 6 and 7 of Ezekiel 36. "Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, and to the rivers, and to the valleys. Thus saith the Lord God. Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury." Now, those of you who have read the book Bible Says Russell Row in Great America, you know that I show the connection between God speaking jealousy to Israel, or in his jealousy, and their relation to whoredom. Israel was an adulterous wife, and the adultery was the worshiping of other gods. And he said he speaks in his jealousy and in my fury because ye have borne the shame of the heathen. God acts in his jealousy because ye have borne the shame of the heathen. Therefore, thus saith the Lord God, I have lifted up mine hand. Surely the heathen that are about to, they shall bear their shame.
Now, before we go on to this spirit of whoredoms, I want to read a few things that are in the newspaper here. Now, when you hear the term heathen, often we make the error of thinking perhaps only of the Negro race, or the Chinese, or something like that. Now, I'm going to show you who the true heathen are in the description. Remember, Israel is bearing the shame of the heathen. That's what he says. In Ezekiel, he talks of our deliverance. In the newspaper article, in the Saturday Enoch's Gazette, two articles, "Synagogue offers programs." Primary topics will be discussed at the weekly Tempe-Solel Sabbath services during the month. Then there's a number of things that the Jewish synagogue is speaking about, and the last paragraph ends up this way. "Twelve couples, six from Tempe-Solel, and six from Camelback United Presbyterian Church will begin an encounter for reconciliation this month. They will have one and a half hours of dialogue each month following study guidelines developed by the national bodies of the two congregations." In other words, the Presbyterians and the people who follow Judaism are getting together to study each other's theology. The next article directly below it says, "Catholics to Learn of Judaism." Portland, Maine. "Two hundred teachers of Maine's Roman Catholic schools have been selected to receive instruction in Jewish history and theology. Joseph John Beck, Assistant Director of Catholic Education in the Diocese of Portland, announced that the project was undertaken with the cooperation of the B'nai B'rith, a Jewish service organization. John Beck said, 'Concepts of Jewish theology would be presented to teachers in Catholic schools so that they can reflect them in their teaching.'" Yes, Jewish theology is going to be taught to Catholic school teachers so they can reflect them in their teaching. Someone handed me this newspaper article just before the service, so I want to just remark on it briefly. An article by Reverend Paul B. Urbano, who is Director of All Saints Episcopal Church, and he quite often writes articles that are published in the local paper. And this article is strictly about, the headline says, "Christianity began as text of Judaism." Christianity began as text of Judaism. And he goes on to tell about some of the things that happened. He says, Christ was intensely Jewish, saturated with the Old Testament, and said that he came not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. He goes on to say, and we Christians are mostly descended from Gentiles, non-Jews, which makes one wonder at anti-Semitism among Christians, until one realizes, number one, that no true Christian could be guilty of it, and number two, the so-called Christians who are guilty of it know as little of Christ's background as they know of his spirit. And then they follow the story about Christianity sprang out of Judaism. Now, I want to read a few articles in this little pamphlet. This is the open letter to ministers who teach the Jews of Israel. These are a few that are in here. I want to read these. Now remember, I've just read some articles that show you that people in Protestant and Catholic denominations are being taught Jewish theology so they can carry it over into their teaching, and they're told that Christianity sprang from Judaism. Now, in the open letter to ministers who believe the Jews are Israel, I have a section titled, "Modern Judaism Comes from Babylon." Here's some quotes from some historical sources. Professor Drake, in his History of the Jews, Volume 2, written in 1893, says, among other things, of the Jewish Talmud, quote, "...the Babylonian Talmud is especially distinguished from the Jerusalem or the Palestinian Talmud. It was for this reason," after he gives the reason, "...it was for this reason that the Babylonian, rather than the Jerusalem Talmud, became the fundamental profession of the Jewish race, its life breath, its very soul." Number 50. In Harnsworth's History of the World, there's a section on the Hebrew people written by, and I list the name of the men, the volume, page number, and they show that, quote, "...Judaism was not evolved in Judah. It was in Babylon that Judaism first became that which it was and still is." End of quote. In other words, this historian says that Judaism comes from Babylon. In H.G. Wells, who wrote the monumental Outline of History, some of you know something about it, quote, "...Judaism is indeed the reconstructed political ideal of many shattered peoples. It is of the Phoenician contingent and to the Aramean possessions in Babylon that the financial and commercial tradition is to be ascribed." End of quote. In other words, their financial and economic theories of Judaism come from Babylon. All right, here's another section, the Biblical Encyclopedia, and this is referring to, oh, I should mention who this is. This is the other part that identifies who the Jews are. Now, we've already shown, and we can show, from history that Judaism came from Babylon. Now the question is, who are the people who follow Judaism? Well, Josephus writes that Edom became part of Jewry. The Biblical Encyclopedia says that, quote, "...the Edomites are part of Jewry." David Davidson, who is a British scientist and author, writes, quote, "...indeed, the Edomites later became completely absorbed in Jewry, and under their aggressive intrusion, the Jews became racially the medium of expression for the Edomite ideal for which Herod the Great had first given political formation." In other words, the Edomites became Jews who carried on the political ideas of Herod the Great. Those of you who know something about Herod the Great, you know that he was the great persecutor of Christians during the first century. He goes on to say, "...the Edomite intrusion into Judaism at every historical point of contact is fully discussed in the volumes of the Cambridge Ancient History." And then he gives the quotes from that. "...the history of the latest phase of this intrusion is in the summary of the Encyclopedia Biblica, Volume 2, Column 1187." And then that's quoted. And then Davidson goes on, "...even the fact that the Edomites have at length become Jews was soon completely forgotten by the exponents of the Jewish tradition." In other words, the modern people of the day have completely forgotten that the people we call Jews are Edomites. They don't even know it. And the Jewish Encyclopedia of 1925 states, "...Edom is in modern Jewry," as does H. G. Wells again in his Outline of History. He states also that the Edomites became Jews. So we see that, instead of the thing we're reading in our newspaper today, that Christianity sprang from Judaism, we find that Judaism is actually the religion of Babylon, and the people who follow the religion of Judaism are the people known in the Bible as Edomites.
All right, let's turn over to the scripture. Leviticus 18. We have to go back a long way in history. And I want to read something, and I think we'll perhaps close on this today, in this part of the Bible, because I can see as far as the time is concerned, I'm going to have to explain to you, as far as the scripture, what the shame of the heathen is, how we have gone a whoring from under our God, and I don't want to leave it off from there. I want to show the fantastic and miraculous deliverance that is due us. And I think that very deliverance we'll have to discuss next week. I want to be sure and mention it now. So I'm showing now the bondage, the shame of the heathen, the thing that we have done that is the shame of America. Leviticus 18, "And the Lord spake unto Moses, Say, speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the Lord your God, and after the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwell, shall ye not do, and after the doings of the land of Canaan." Now, I won't take time to show you that Canaan was occupied by seven nations, and according to Genesis 36, they were collectively known as Edomites. They were known as Jebusites and Hittites and Hivites and so on, but collectively they are called Edomites or Canaanites. The land was Canaan, the descendancy was Edom, but they're called Edomites or Canaanites. And he says, This is a specific instruction from the Lord God of Israel to Israel when they came to the land of Canaan. "After the doings of the land of Canaan," that's what they were not to do, "whither I bring you shall ye do not, neither shall you walk in their ordinances," their laws, the things that they follow you are not supposed to follow. "Ye shall do my judgment and keep mine ordinance, and to walk therein I am the Lord your God. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgment, which if a man do he shall live in them, I am the Lord." Then follows, and I didn't count them, but I think there's 13 or 14 verses telling you're not supposed to see so-and-so naked. You're not supposed to see anyone naked without clothes. And there's 14 verses. Now, brother or sister, I'd like to ask you, where do you find all of this movie? It's not on television quite yet. Magazines and newspapers, what do we find flooding America? Pictures and live movies, and evidently there are actually live people doing it now, dancing naked in front of the American people in the bars in Las Vegas and these other cities. I guess they're actually dancing nude. And God said the first thing you're not to do, you're not to do after the land of Canaan, you're not to do these things these Edomites do, and brother or sister, who promotes all the nakedness in this land today? The people that follow the religion of Judaism, the people identified in the Bible as Edomites. Now, I'm going to read some more here, and I'll show you that God goes right down these lists of what they're not to do. All right, we won't read all of that. You can read those verses on it through chapter, verse 19, but in verse 20 it says, "Moreover, thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbor's wife to defile thyself with her." Now, that's adultery as we know it, and that's the law against adultery. But as we read these, it's interesting that God lists certain specific things that we just don't do like the Canaanites do. Let me ask you again, who writes the magazine articles and the newspaper articles and makes the movies that glorifies adultery and divorce and makes heroes out of people who have one, two, three, and four wives and are between wives and then they joke about it on television? They have made adultery a common thing and have glorified it. And who does it? You know as well as I do. The same people that follow the religion of Judaism. In verse 21, "And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to molest, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God. I am the Lord." There's also the same group of people. They spend much time and much effort to prevent you from reading your Bible in the public schools. They prevent people from praying in public places. They blaspheme the name of our Lord, and the name of our Lord is Jesus Christ, and they blaspheme his name all over this land, and they make fun of him, and they do everything they can to decrave him and his people. Verse 22, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, it is an abomination." Homosexuality. They're even making movies now that glorify homosexuality. Jokes on television that make it seem like it's all right. They write articles in magazines. My boy brought home an article from the, I don't know the name of it, but it's the Student Newspaper at the Arizona State University, and they had a separate article in there written by a homosexual under the authority of the newspaper, telling how good it was and that it should be legalized, and it was all right in the Arizona State University newspaper. They're letting them write special articles by homosexuals. Who promotes this abomination? It prevents us from carrying out God's law for the destruction of it in the land.

πΊπΈ The Shame of America [Part 2]
Paul’s message in Romans 10 is central: faith comes by hearing and *understanding* God’s Word. π§ The speaker criticizes churches that preach “Christ” without the Word, and those who claim Christianity sprang from Judaism—since Judaism, he argues, comes from Babylon, not the Bible. π―️ He says America’s shame and judgments (wars, poverty, captivity) will end when Israel turns to Christ. π Quoting Isaiah 52 and Zephaniah 3, he promises a future deliverance: God will remove the “Canaanites/heathen” from the land, take away judgment, and rejoice over His people. πΆ The call: don’t be slack—preach the Word, for it alone will save Israel.

**The Shame of America [Part 2]**
Last Sunday we were talking of the shame of America, and I knew when I started last Sunday morning that I just certainly wouldn't have time to finish all the notes that I had, but turn with me over to Romans 10 first, and read a little of the Scripture and God's Word regarding his plan and his purposes upon the earth for his people Israel and then also for the rest of the nation. In Romans 10, Paul says, "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved, for I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not permitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." This is literally true today. You know from your civil government and from your regular political authorities and also the religious authorities, everyone is trying to do everything in every way except God's way. Everyone has an idea, and it appears that the government has now arrived at a point where they can take from the people monies to try almost anything, but the one thing they won't try is God's way. And Paul is praying for Israel then, and we find Israel in the same position today. They are trying to go about to establish their own righteousness. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. For Moses described it, the righteousness which is of the law, that the man which doeth these things shall live by them." In other words, you'll live and die according to that law with no mercy. "But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart who shall ascend into heaven, that is, to bring Christ down from above, or who shall descend into the deep, that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead, but what sayeth it?" Here is what God's righteousness says, but what sayeth it? "The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart, that is, the word of faith which we preach." And then he goes on to describe that word of faith. Now, the word of faith includes this Bible and the belief in it, but you'll notice what Paul says, and he's speaking, of course, after the death and resurrection of Christ. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised you from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Now, we have two or three different kinds of people around the earth today, including in America. Some think that they can have the word without a living Christ, and some think they can have a living Christ without the living word. Most of the preaching today in the denominational churches is about the Lord Jesus Christ. Over and over and over they'll tell you to come to Christ, believe in Christ, have faith in Christ, but they won't have the word. And some of the people on the other end of the spectrum will let preach the word, but Christ isn't important. Well, brother or sister, you can't separate the one from the other, because after all, Christ is the word made flesh. You cannot take the word away from Christ and retain the God of Israel, or the Christ that we should know. Paul says that this word of faith includes, and it must include of necessity, that Christ died and was raised from the dead. Someone gave me a newspaper clipping this morning, and I have several more of them, and there's a great thrust in all of Christendom today to convince all of the Christian people that the Jewish people really believe in the Bible, and actually their Bible and their faith is the foundation of ours. Paul says, Oh, no, this is the word of faith, that you believe that Christ was raised from the dead. And that's the one thing they absolutely refuse to believe. They will have nothing to do with it. Verse 11, "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." You know why we have the shame of the heathen? Why we have the shame of the Canaanites? Very simply, as a nation and as a people, we have not turned to the Lord Jesus Christ. And when we don't do that, we turn and we get all these other things, and we have this shame we were talking about last week. Verse 12, "For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek," and remember these two words are Judean and Hellenic. In other words, there is no difference between the Israelite in Jerusalem and the Israelite in the dispersion in Greece. "For the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." And then comes the verse that has to do with what you and I are doing, and what must be done as far as the nation of Israel is concerned. "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him in whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things." And he is quoting Isaiah 52 and verse 7, and that verse ends up with saying, preaching that thy God to Zion, that thy God reigneth. That means the gospel of the kingdom. If you try to preach anything else, it doesn't make any sense to Israel, and it doesn't do anything for Israel. "For they have not all obeyed the gospel, for Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then, Paul concludes, so then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." And this word, hearing, means understanding. It means understanding. Faith cometh by understanding, and understanding by the word of God. As someone once wrote, that heaven is not made for geese. Heaven is made for people who understand the word of God. Remember, Christ said, and he talked to the apostles after he had explained the gospel to them, he said, I no more call you servants, but I call you friends, because the servant knoweth not what his master doeth. Now, if you don't understand the word of God, the gospel of the kingdom, how are you going to be called a friend of Jesus Christ, because you don't know what he's doing? And Paul says you have to have understanding. This Greek word means understanding. And as you will realize, in reading of Christ speaking, that they hear, those who have ears let them hear. He meant those who have ears, let them understand. In the book of Proverbs, it says, according to Solomon, in all thy getting, get understanding. And Solomon said that wisdom is the principal thing. Happy is the man who geteth wisdom. How many of you have you ever seen a happy imbecile who was a Christian? It just doesn't make sense. And yet, the general preaching yesterday, that all you have to do is just come up and confess the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he'll change your life, and all this kind of stuff. And there's no idea, no instruction, no telling these people to understand the word of God. Listen to it, study it, understand it, read it. And Paul goes through all of these things. He starts out by saying that his prayer was that Israel was to be saved, and he ends up by saying how? Israel is going to have to be saved by the preaching of the word of God so that they understand it. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. And America and Israel is not going to be delivered from the shame that they have until they get that faith that comes from the understanding of the word of God. Most of the friends that I have who are in other Christian denominations, they claim that they have faith. And some of you have people like that. And you can talk to them for as long as you wish, and you can't find out from them a thing that God Almighty is doing upon the earth. They do not see the hand of God in anything that's happening today. They have no understanding of the scripture. And yet Paul said that faith cometh by understanding, and understanding by the word of God.
Let's turn over to Isaiah, because I want to finish in the book of Isaiah. What you see happening, as far as this ministry is concerned, I believe is a fulfillment of what God has told us in Isaiah 52 of what we're supposed to do. We read this when I started. In Isaiah 52, he says, "Awake, awake, put on thy strength, O Zion, put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city. For henceforth there shall no more come unto thee the uncircumcised and the unclean." He says, You put on your garments. There is a day coming when there will be none but believers, Christian people, in you, in Jerusalem and Zion. "Shake thyself from the dust, arise and sit down, O Jerusalem. Loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion." And brother, sister, we're Zion, and brother, sister, we're a captive. We are a captive of all the world and heathen forces, as most of you know. "For thus saith the Lord, ye have sold yourselves for naught, and ye shall be redeemed without money." The blood of the Lord Jesus Christ has paid the ransom to bring Israel out from this captivity and this bondage. "For thus saith the Lord God, my people went down a fort. I went into Egypt to sojourn there, and the Assyrian oppressed them without a cause." We were also in the Assyrian captivity. "Now therefore, what have I here, saith the Lord, that my people has taken away for naught? They that rule over them make them to fowl, saith the Lord, and my name continually every day is blasphemed. Therefore my people shall know my name, therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak, behold, in his eye." And then comes this verse that Paul quoted in Romans. "How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation, that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth." Yes, brother, sister, this ministry of Lord's Covenant Church and America's Promise radio broadcast, the printing and the tape ministry, is a ministry that we believe and pray is saying unto Zion that God rules in the affairs of men, that all of these things are in the providence of God. He is working out his purposes upon the earth to bring to pass the thing that God wants to come to pass. Now, the tragedy is that most ministries seem to be even similar to this one, of small churches. Unless they understand the identity of the Israel people and that God is going to establish his kingdom upon the earth, there isn't a thing they can tell them out of this Bible about the fact that God rules on this earth and is bringing these things to pass.
I turn over to Zephaniah. I read so much of his scripture, every one of his prophets tells the same story about the deliverance of Israel from their shame at the end of the age. And everyone tells it so well, but there just isn't time to read them all. So I thought I'd read the last chapter of Zephaniah, because he puts it in a manner that we can see it's happening, it's going to come to pass, the great deliverance for his Israel people. After going on in the first part here and talking about the other ones that he's going to cut off and so on, in verse 8 he says, "Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the praise. For my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger. For all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy." It is God's purpose to gather all these nations against this nation, so that he can pour out his wrath upon all of them when they come against his Israel people. "For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent. From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughters of my disperse, shall bring mine offering." And you know that verse is when Zephaniah, or where he was standing, looking over Ethiopia with Africa, looking beyond Africa, he could have seen, or might have seen in vision, this western hemisphere. And he says, from beyond that place will come my suppliants. Suppliants mean people who are praying and weeping, and they are the daughter of his disperse. Yes, the United States of America, and of course our Canadian friends. "In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doing." I wonder how long it's going to be as America gets more ashamed and more ashamed. And I know there are people who read the things that are happening in the newspapers. They read these conservative and anti-communist publications, and they actually are ashamed of being an American. The things that we are doing in other nations, the things that we are doing in this nation, if we didn't know what God's purpose was, we could really be ashamed. I remember one time I read an article in the U.S. News and World Report some years ago, and brother or sister, I think, for the first time, I was actually ashamed of being an American. And this was before I knew the Israel identity. I didn't know we were Israel. You remember the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, and I read the U.S. News and World Report article how the radio broadcaster on our Navy carrier kept telling these men ashore, our planes will be over in just a few minutes. Keep fighting. We were going to give them air support. Our planes will be over in just a few minutes. Keep fighting. This went on for hours. And finally, our American radio operator on the American Naval aircraft carrier turned right around and he says, no, we're not sending our planes over. We're cutting off all communications. Good luck. And he shut off the radio. And that was the end of it. And we left those men ashore with no hope whatsoever, and of course they were captured by Castro. That was a deliberate act on the part of the United States government, and I believe, as I say, at that moment I was just ashamed that I was an American. Now, we have been doing things like that all over the world, betraying people into the hands of the enemy, including our own people. But God says, "In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings wherein thou hast transgressed against me. For then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride." Yes, brother, sister, there's not only going to be a turning of Israel, there's going to be a removing of some certain people out of the nation. God is not going to turn everybody. He's going to turn Israel and remove Israel's enemies. Out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride. "And thou shalt no more be haughty," and the translation here should read, in my holy mountain. It says because of, and the margin says, thou shalt no more be haughty in my holy mountain. God's holy nation. And thou, verse 14, "Sing, O daughter of Zion, shalt, O Israel, be glad and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord hath taken away thy judgments." And brother, sister, the things that we fear, the things that we're ashamed of, are not really our shame. All of this poverty, and all of this racial strife, and all of these other things, and all of communism, those are judgments from God because we have accepted the shame of the heathen. Those four things we were talking about last Sunday morning, that they did in Canaan. We have accepted these Canaanites into our midst. Someone showed me this new book that's out now. They have actually rewritten a Bible study that has written one of the authors is a Jewish rabbi. And this is the Bible study that will go in our schools. We're going to be teaching our children Judaism in our schools. And Judaism is the religion of the people who were called the Canaanites or the heathen people in old Palestine. And we're accepting that in all of our land. The rest of this is judgments because of it. This war and all of the rest of this are judgments. And God says, "The Lord hath taken away thy judgments. He has cast out thine enemy." Yes, when the enemy is gone, God will remove the judgment from Israel. "The King of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee. Thou shalt not see evil any more. In that day, it shall be said to Jerusalem, fear thou not, and to Zion, let not thine hands be slack." And, brother, sister, as we go on into another year and look back over what we did the last year, let's not let our hands be slack. God says, in Zion you preach the word that God reigneth, and don't be slack about the Father's business. "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty. He will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy." Do you ever stop to think about that? That God Almighty will be joyful in the day he saves Israel from the hands of their enemy. You know, sometimes we forget that God is a God of emotions also. He's sorrowful and he is joyful. And here he says that God Almighty will joy over Israel in the day that he delivers us from the enemy. We're called to joy of God. You know, Israel, my joy, he says in the scripture. "He will rest in his love. He will joy over thee with singing. I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden." And many, many hearts in this land, good people who don't know that we're the Israel people of the Bible, are burdened with all these judgments that are coming upon this nation. There are good people all over this land who have lost sons in Vietnam. Good people, Christian people, born again believers, and their boys have died in Vietnam. They don't know. They didn't know it's a judgment from God Almighty, because they have allowed the heathen, the Canaanites, to come in here and take over this land and preach their heathen doctrines. "Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee, and I will save her that hath faltered, and gather her that was driven out," that's Israel. "And I will give them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame." You know, I think by the time this is over, we will be actually put to shame in every land in the world, including our own. America, in the name of Americans, is liable to be a shameful thing before all the heathen, before this is over. But he says, I will give them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame. "And at that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you, for I will make you a name and a praise among all the people of the earth when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord." Brother, sister, there's a great day dawning, and we're coming almost upon it. No, let's not be slack, because God is going to remove from this land and from all the lands of Israel the Canaanites and all the heathen people that afflict us in the day of our deliverance. And meanwhile, he says, let not your hands be slack. Keep your hand on the prowl. Keep contributing to the kingdom ministries and to the ministers who will teach the truth of God's word to the Israel people. For God says that his word is the only thing that will do anything in Israel. You can do everything under the sun as they're doing today, and it will all come to naught. But God says his word is what will be used to convert Israel. And that's all we ask the Lord to let us do is to preach it.
Our Father and our God, we thank you for this witness and this word that you are gathering all the nations for thy purposes. And thy purpose is the deliverance of Israel, the removal of all those in their midst who afflict us. Father, we ask that you speed the day. Lord, these judgments are a burden. And we know, Lord, that because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ, that that burden and those judgments will be lifted. We thank you, Father, for this great and mighty deliverance that thou hast given us in Jesus Christ.
